Overview

Training built around your team

We train teams on the tools and techniques we use in client project work. Courses are built for the team in front of us rather than delivered from a catalogue, and every topic maps to a service we deliver, so your team can go deeper with us on any of it afterwards.

Topics

What we can train your team on

Practical embedded development on STM32, the platform behind much of our motor control work.

Real-Time Operating Systems

Developing with an RTOS, and knowing when not to use one.

Development Workflow & Tooling

Git Flow, requirements tracking, UML, documentation, code review, and pull requests.

Code Quality & Unit Testing

The unit-testing tools and practices behind our code review work.

Event logs, database features, and building diagnostics into embedded products.

SCADA & Protection

SCADA protocols and the protection and control technologies from our power systems work.

Commissioning for Field Engineers

Commissioning and diagnosing electrical equipment, drawing on over a decade in the power sector.

How training runs

The shape below is a starting point we adjust with you.

Group sizeSmall enough that everyone gets hands-on. Exercises run in groups of four or five.
BalanceSubstantially practical. Short teaching blocks alternating with exercises on real tools.
Skill levelAny. Content is pitched after we talk to you about the team.
PrerequisitesFor software topics, attendees bring a laptop with the toolchain installed. We confirm the list beforehand.

Background

Where this comes from

We have delivered on-site training to distribution utilities and lines companies across New Zealand on protection equipment, SCADA protocols, and commissioning. Alongside that, we teach the embedded development practices we use on client projects: test-first development, review discipline, and automated testing.

Training is usually scoped alongside a project rather than bought on its own. It works well when your team is taking on something we have built or reviewed, or building up capability in an area we work in.
